Caitlin Fodor, Orthopedic Sales Consultant, Zimmer Biomet
As a medical device sales consultant, I work in an operating room environment every day. Witnessing the current process flow of most operating rooms and hearing concerns about our healthcare system as a whole from doctors, nurses and administrators alike, inspired me to pursue a degree in healthcare systems engineering. I believe that having leaders in healthcare that understand and honor the physician while still providing quality system improvements is imperative. My current work experience has provided excellent insight into developing professional, effective, relationships with physicians. Combined with the knowledge of how an engineering mindset can help to make quality processes efficient and effective from an undergraduate engineering degree from Lehigh University, I can see how imperative healthcare system engineers will be to the future of healthcare. The program is well equipped for working professionals to gain the full experience and education through online learning. I enjoy a meaningful, virtual relationship with all of my professors, who make themselves available to students who are not on campus. Many of the class discussions focus on current issues in healthcare and how the engineering principals being taught can be applied in a real world scenario.
