The HSE program requires the completion of 30 credits of coursework, as the diagram below illustrates. Depending on your background, you may have to take one or two pre-requisite courses, to build a solid foundation of mathematics before pursuing the more sophisticated engineering courses. These pre-requisites do not count towards the 30-credits total.
There are many factors that can affect your schedule and the timeline, ranging from when the courses are offered, to the pace you aim to keep, your choice of electives and other plans outside of academics. “Which course should I take next?” is a question that comes up frequently. The upside is that the HSE program offers a lot of flexibility – after all, you would not want to have to drop your studies so you can take advantage of a professional opportunity or entertain a personal endeavor, would you? On the other hand, this means that there are many possible ways to structure your schedule. All HSE students will have the opportunity to work with their advisor to create the schedule that best fits their needs.
