With the future of healthcare demands, payments, and even the approach to care so uncertain, health networks are finding themselves in desperate need to manage costs and seek efficiencies in new and clever ways. My team is responsible for helping our health network identify operational improvement opportunities and manage productivity on an ongoing basis. We leverage both the “softer skills” of Lean concepts as well as the more traditional engineering efforts of simulation and optimization regularly in our work. In just 2 years, we have identified over $6M in perpetual savings. I firmly believe that Lehigh’s HSE program propelled my career forward into a Director role faster than it would have otherwise by providing skills that augmented my experience in ways that are novel, desirable, and necessary in healthcare organizations.
